Resources
The LRC, which has recently undergone extensive refurbishment, holds
a large collection of text books, which includes up-to-date popular
fiction books, reference books, encyclopedias and dictionaries.
We also subscribe to various periodicals which include, National
Geographical, The World Today, Frontier, Horrible Histories,
Horrible Science and many more.
Each student is registered via a new finger printing system called
Identikit, whose details are kept on the library computer. They can
borrow up to four books and have three weeks in which to return
them. Should they fail to do this, a fine of 1p is charged for each
day the book is overdue. The fines collected go into a charity
box. Any books lost or not returned are charged for.
Computers
The main computer suite has a network of 38 computers, a printer and
three scanners. All software is up-to-date and our team of computer
technicians from the ICT Department is always on hand should any
problems occur or if the systems need to be updated. All our
computers have internet access, which is controlled, so that
students can obtain all the information needed to help them with
their studies and coursework. Each student is given a log-on name
and password. .
Special Events
Throughout the year quizzes and competitions are held in the LRC
during the lunch break. Prizes given are usually book or CD gift
tokens. This is great fun and very popular with the students. Mrs.
Venuto organizes Author visits for the students which has been very
successful. Echo Freer has come into to visit us and there will be
many more in the near future.
Reading Club
At King Solomon High School we have launched a new reading club
where there are 5 Zones. Each student will have to read five books
for each Zone and once they have completed them they get a prize,
certificate and a letter sent home. We have great success with this
new reading scheme and hope that many students will continue to
participate.
