Throughout Key Stage 3 students are taught
I.C.T in one lesson per week. In year 7 – 8
students follow the National curriculum
which includes the areas of information &
data searching, processing text and images,
models, rules and investigations, control,
publishing on the web and systems. In Year 9
students commence the GCSE (short course)
which they then complete in Year 10. Year 11
will offer an additional course in the
future.
In Years 10 & 11 students can also opt to
follow the diploma, DIDA (diploma in digital
Application). This is a vocational course
equivalent to 4 GCSEs. Students produce
several pieces of coursework all created in
an e-portfolio covering databases,
spreadsheets, presentation skills,
multimedia and graphics.
The facilities for teaching I.C.T at KSHS
allow students to produce high quality work.
The school is fortunate to have six large
ICT suites as well as the Learning Resource
Centre. Most classrooms have interactive
whiteboards on which teachers can
demonstrate I.C.T to whole classes
throughout the curriculum, and students can
effectively demonstrate work.
The sixth form has a very successful A level
course of study. We currently offer the AQA
A-Level in I.C.T. In this course students
learn advanced theories of information and
complete 2 pieces of coursework which
develops their software skills to a high
level. We also offer a vocation course which
is an Applied A level. This course has few
examined units as most of the work is
completed through coursework modules. It is
a rigorous course and the students gain
skills in database design, systems analysis,
networking, multimedia and design. Students
following this course have historically
gained very high grades.
We currently have 5 members of teaching
staff:
Mrs Davis (Head of Department), Mr Jaffa,
Mrs Berk, Mr Laing and Mr Redfern. Most
staff in the department are involved in
teaching all Key Stages.
We also have two technical staff:
Ricky Simons (Network Manager) and Alex
Elston (technician)
