Welcome
To The Mathematics Department
@
King Solomon High School
|
At King Solomon we believe that Mathematics should
be an enjoyable experience for all pupils.
We are a department that sets high expectations
of all students, challenging and motivating them
irrespective of ability. We use a variety
of teaching methods that help all learners, and
as a department we make extensive use of our
interactive whiteboards.
| At Key Stage 3 we
follow the National Strategy for the teaching of Mathematics
(commonly called The Framework). At the end of year 9 pupils
enter their SATs examinations. Students will enter one of the
following levels - 3 to 5, 4 to 6, 5 to 7, or 6 to 8. |
| At Key Stage 4 we follow the Edexcel syllabus where
students will achieve a GCSE in Mathematics. We are
following the new two tier system (that will be examined for the
first time in 2008). Students entering the higher tier will be
able to get grades A* - D, and in the foundation tier they will be
able to get grades C - G. |
| At Key Stage 5 we follow the OCR (Mei) Mathematics
AS, and A2 courses. Mathematics is a popular option at
A-Level. At AS level students study Core Maths 1 & 2 and
Mechanics 1. At A2 level students study Core Maths 3 & 4 and
Statistics 1. |
| At AS Further Maths we
also follow the OCR (Mei) Mathematics
course. Currently for this we are studying Further Maths 1,
Decision 1 and Numerical Methods 1. |
